Marco and I were both living and working in Philadelphia when we met. Marco had moved from Thuringia, Germany and I had moved from Baltimore, Maryland. After more than a decade in Philadelphia, in late 2019, we moved to Lake Tranquility, NJ where we quickly grew accustomed to living in and loving a more rural setting surrounded by nature.
Memorial Day weekend 2024, we took a drive up to central New York and discovered Sharon Springs on a friend’s recommendation. As we explored the quaint village, we went from shop to shop talking with the local merchants. We inquired about the FOR SALE sign in front of The American Hotel; before the day was over, the owner had graciously given us a personal tour. We instantly felt a warm connection to the hotel, the owner, and the village.
The rest is history, or rather the future.
After such a warm reception, the idea of taking our decades of experience in travel and hospitality into a new chapter of our lives together as the new owners of The American Hotel took shape. Our mission is to provide exceptional boutique hotel and restaurant experiences in an historic location tucked between the Catskills and Adirondacks; known for its legendary healing waters since pre-colonial times.
We are honored to be a part of the community and aspire to continue the amazing legacy that Garth and Doug built together. We can’t wait to share this experience with you soon!
